This is the tent most thru-hikers and ultralight backpackers look for when trying to get their base weight down into the sub 7-8 pound range. The Big Agnes Fly Creek HV2 tent is an amazing construction using Dyneema to drastically lower the weight.

This loss in weight doesn’t adversely impact the durability though on this tent due to the use of Dyneema fabric. Though they aren’t indestructible as long as proper care is taken this tent will last you through your hike and leave you wanting more!

The Big Agnes Fly Creek HV2 tent weighs in at only 1 lb 2 oz. Yes, you read that correctly, due to this, it is an amazing tent for your PCT, CDT, or AT thru-hike!

Special Features (Pros) of the Big Agnes Fly Creek Tent

Featuring Dyneema® Composite Fabric – Dyneema is respected as the premium brand for Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. This fabric is ultralightweight, 100% rainproof and has high dimensional stability that resists stretching or sagging during temperature changes. Its unique structure creates a fabric with extremely high-tear strength and allows for welded construction, which eliminates seams and the need for seam tape, enhancing its durability and waterproofness.

Incredibly Ultralight Weight – These tents are extremely lightweight weighing in at 1 pound 2 ounces and due to this they require special care to increase their longevity. The use of a footprint is highly encouraged as not using a footprint could quickly damage your floor if you are not careful choosing a campsite selection

Drawbacks (Cons) for the Big Agnes Fly Creek Tent

Limited Durability – If you don’t take care in placement and it lays on rocks and sharp objects you will get wear and punctures quickly. Recommend purchasing the footprint or a Tyvek groundsheet.

Pullout Placement – There aren’t many pullouts to give more room in the tent, to allow for lowering the weight Big Agnes didn’t place pullouts to provide that super ultralight weight.

Single Color Option Only – There is no color available currently outside of this one version. Big Agnes has heard and passed on information to the development side to look into providing other color options.

Who is Big Agnes?

Note from the vendor: These tents are not for everyone. Our Carbon Series products were designed to push the weight boundaries in tents. They feature some of the lightest weight and most technologically advanced materials on the market. Special care during setup and extended trips is important, as rough handling, long-term abrasion, exposure to sharp objects or rocky campsite selection may result in fabric punctures and tears.

Independent Reviews and Recommendations

Outdoor Gear Lab

The Big Agnes Fly Creek HV2 Carbon is the lightest dedicated-pole tent that we have ever seen and would be an incredibly reasonable load for one or two people. Despite its futuristic feel, it stands up surprisingly well in the elements. With that achievement, there come a whole host of other considerations that we think don’t quite hit the mark. It’s a tight fit on the inside for two.

What Customers Have to Say About Big Agnes Fly Creek Tent

Solid so far and super light!
I finally got a chance to use this recently for 4 days in Hetch Hetchy (in Yosemite). I intend to primarily use this with my GF but this trip I used it solo. Previously we set this up in the living room and my GF and I talked through our thoughts on the tent for a while. We own a regular Fly Creek HV UL 2, a couple bivys, a low and high end 2 person mountaineering tent and a few backpacking hammocks. I generally do “shorter” trips of 2-8 days.

I used the Tiger Wall 2 Carbon Tent on a backcountry hunting trip this fall (2019). Being able to have such a lightweight tent made it easier to hike further into the forest with all the essential gear I needed. We had to camp in a rocky area of the mountain that had burnt 2 years prior. Though the material is very thin, the tent held up extremely well during our time on the mountain. The only thing that tore, was one of the tie down strings and that was because I stacked rocks beside it to help block some heavy wind.

Good but Delicate

I used this tent for about 40 days bicycle touring in summer/fall of 2019. Overall I’m happy with it but it is paper thin and I was extremely careful with it. I punched one hole in the floor (my fault). Funny, I had less success with the stuff sack. I managed to tear two holes in the stuff sack just putting the tent in. I love: the weight, doors, waterproof but I only use this tent solo as I don’t trust my friends to treat it gingerly enough
