Special Features (Pros) of the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir UberLite

Stretch Knit Fabric – For comfort-conscious campers, they use stretch knit fabric which provides unrivaled support and superior next-to-skin feel. The fabric conforms to your body to provide supple support as you enjoy your nights under the stars.

Tapered Design – The tapered design helps to reduce weight without compromising the warmth, and the unique fabrics used for this pad meet strict durability standards that backpackers and thru-hikers can depend on.

R-Value Evaluation System – This R-Value system allows for you to measure a sleeping pads performance versus another pad. This recently was passed to become a standard that all other vendors will have to conform to which should provide a nice evaluation layer!

Drawbacks (Cons) for the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir UberLite

Valve System – A few people have stated that they seemed to have a flawed valve which wouldn’t hold air. It sounds like this would be detectable on delivery so make sure to test it out before you take off on your hike.

Size Choices – Many people wish there was a middle size about 60″ and wider. This is because many people don’t sleep straight as a log and with quilts taking over for a mummy bag being adjustable is desired.

About the Therm-a-Rest Company

First started in 1971, a fortuitous mix of unemployed engineers, a leaky foam gardening pad, and the dream of a better way to sleep under the stars came together to change how we experience the outdoors forever.

Why do they focus on comfort? It’s from the simple belief that the better you rest, the better you play. It’s a universal truth that is readily apparent in our daily lives, but one that is too often overlooked at play.

Independent Reviews and Recommendations

This little guy packs down the size of a beer can and weighs just over eight oz. The trade-offs are what you’d expect. It only has an R-value of 2, which is pretty meager compared to the Xtherm.

With delicate fabrics and limited warmth, the UberLite is not a “one-and-done” pad nor is it for casual users. But in the hands of a backpacker who is willing to trade durability and warmth for comfort, a very small packed size and low weight, who knows their own needs with regards to insulation, knows how to select and prepare sites that will minimize damage to their pad, and who is prepared to patch their pad or use makeshift alternatives in the case of a puncture, it could be a great addition to the pad quiver.

We absolutely love how light, compact, quiet, and comfortable the Therm-a-Rest UberLite is. This is the pad you’ll find in our packs for all our summer outings. The main question to ask yourself with this pad is: how often do you backpack in sub-freezing temps? If the answer is rarely, this might be the perfect pad for you.

The Therm-a-Rest NeoAir UberLite is flat out the lightest air mattress I have ever used. I especially appreciate this as I’m coming off of 8 months of inactivity due to a major knee injury.

The comfort was equal to other lightweight backpacking mattresses, and the insulating value is on the low side. But I predict many will use it as a three-season mattress with appropriate clothing and sleep systems.

What Online Customers Have to Say About The Therm-a-Rest NeoAir UberLite

Rated year-after-year consistently with good reviews online, this sleeping pad comes highly recommended.

Absolutely the best backpacking sleeping pad .
Have used for 5 nights now, all with the Vesper 32. Packs down incredibly small, is ridiculously light, and is very comfortable to sleep on. I cowboy camped with it and the Vesper 32 in temperatures right around 35 degrees and was very warm, although I did wear my down jacket as well.

Used this mat on an early spring hike in Alqonguin Park. First night got down two -2*. I did not feel any cold coming up from the ground below. This mat was very quiet it makes no noise when moving around on it and comfortable. Used the NeoAir pump sack to blow it up.

I purchased one of these AMAZING pads at REI Dallas. I was kicking my own butt for spending that much, but I was going from a 21oz Paria full length to an 8.8oz full length sleeping pad. So the money represented a lighter pack, longer days, and a more restful night. To me at least… (not so much the wife). Anyhoos… this thing is incredible. The fabric is super thin but surprisingly durable.

Final Thoughts on the Therm-A-Rest NeoAir UberLite

If you are looking for the lightest and most effective sleeping pad available for thru-hiking this is the best one hands down! Nothing matches it’s slight build and even lower overall weight to R-Value.

The best way to state this is you make back the cost in your comfort on a long distance thru-hike. The sleeping pad is one of the core ways you can help drop your backpacking base weight in a large way along with helping drop the size of pack you will need.
